2 pie crusts 6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1 cup (packed) brown sugar 2 tbsp flour 1 tbsp lemon juice 1/2 tbsp cinnamon 1/4 tbsp nutmeg 1 tbsp butter milk (1 or 2 tbsp) sugar
1. Preheat oven to 425F.2. Put bottom crust in pie pan. Mix all the rest of the ingredients, except the butter, in a bowl. Pour the mixture into crust. Dot with butter. Place on top crust. Flute edges of pie crust. Cut vents in top crust. Using a pastry brush, paint the top crust with milk. Lightly sprinkle with sugar. 3. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cover outside edge of crust. Finish baking pie for 25 to 30 more minutes.
Good-quality buttercup squash will be firm, heavy for its size and have an even cream color.
Avoid product that has soft spots, dull and wrinkled (...)
