Scientific Binomial Name: Artocarpus altilis
Use like white potatoes - slice, deep-fry, bake or boil.
Good-quality Breadfruit will be hard, evenly colored and heavy for its size.
The coloring will be green and the skin develops brown speckles when ripe.
Avoid product that is soft or that has black or moldy soft spots.
Ripen breadfruit at room temperature and then refrigerate until ready for use.
Breadfuit will ripen slightly after picking - store at room temperature.
Breadfruit is very low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. It's also a good source of Dietary Fiber and Potassium, and a great source of Vitamin C.
