The Pinova Apple is a fairly new variety with old-fashioned apple flavor

The Pinova apple has some fine European heritage including Cox Orange Pippin & Duchess of Oldenberg varieties along with Golden Delicious. The Pinova stores well

Selection Information

Usage: The Pinova is a balanced apple – doing equally well when eaten out of hand or cooked.

Selection & Storage: The fruit is crisp and juicy, with a firm, dense flesh. It has a mild, well-balanced sweet-tart flavor, which actually improves in storage. The apples have a distinctive dark red blush over a yellow background color with prominent lenticels. The Pinova stores exceptionally well, retaining its distinctive crisp and crunchy texture for many months.

Selection: Good-quality Pinova apples will be firm with smooth, clean skin and have good color for the variety. Test the firmness of the apple by holding it in the palm of your hand. (Do not push with your thumb). It should feel solid and heavy, not soft and light.

To store, keep apples as cold as possible in the refrigerator. Apples do not freeze until the temperature drops to 28.5 degrees F.

Avoid: Avoid product with soft or dark spots. Also if the apple skin wrinkles when you rub your thumb across it, the apple has probably been in cold storage too long or has not been kept cool.

Seasonal Information

The Pinova ripens in mid to late September.
