Cashew Nut

Scientific Binomial Name: Anacardium occidentale

Selection Information

Usage: Eaten unsalted, salted, or sugared. Cashew nuts are often used in Indian, Chinese, and Thai cuisine. Cashews are also delicious covered in chocolate!

Selection: Cashews may be purchased prepackaged or in bulk. If you're purchasing bulk cashews stored in a bin, make sure the container they're in is covered to protect the product's freshness.

Storage: Cashews can turn rancid quickly because of their high oil content and they should be stored in a cool, dry place in an airtight container to avoid absorption of other food odors. Refrigerated cashews will keep for up to six months. Frozen cashews can be kept up to a year.

Avoid: Avoid cashews that are shriveled or have a rancid odor.
